If you want to supercharge your morning productivity, what’s usually lacking isn’t knowledge of what you need to do. It’s knowledge of how to motivate yourself to do it. A recent article on Inc.com’s sister site, Fast Company, reminded me I actually already know a great trick to make getting in the groove in the morning much easier for entrepreneurs. It comes from an unlikely source — celebrated author Ernest Hemingway.
Unexpected lessons from an MFA
Many, many years ago, I was a bright-eyed grad student pursuing an MFA in creative writing. The biggest lesson I took away from that experience was that I didn’t have the constitution to be a literary author. But I also learned several valuable skills — from how to thoughtfully receive negative feedback to how classic storytelling structure works — and also accumulated extensive knowledge of famous authors’ advice for young writers.
